New iPhone coming this Fall

It is becoming more and more clear, that there may be a new iPhone after all, this fall. Wall Street Journal has this report speculating the new iPhone release coming Fall. One key feature that everyone seem to be expecting is the 8-mega-pixel camera.

It is also believed that the new version of the iPhone will be thinner and lighter.

One person familiar with the matter said the new iPhone will operate on Qualcomm Inc.’s wireless chips. Apple’s current iPhone 4 uses chips from a former unit of German chip maker Infineon Technologies AG that is now owned by Intel Corp. in the model available to most operators. It uses Qualcomm chips for a version for U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless.

15 billion downloads from the Apple APP Store

Wow! This is an amazing number. It is not in the millions, but in Billions with a “B”. Who would have thought few years ago such a stat is even remotely possible? This morning Apple released a press release with the following information.

More than 15 billion apps have been downloaded from the revolutionary App Store and more than 425,000 apps are available, including more than 100,000 native iPad apps, to consumers in 90 countries. Users of the more than 200 million iOS devices around the world can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, education, sports, health, reference and travel. Apple has paid developers over $2.5 billion to date.

“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads.”

What is even more amazing is there are more than 100,000 native iPad apps out there! Show me another tablet platform with this level of sophisticated eco system, until then, everyone follow the leader.

The Mac 10.6.8 update addresses the following

  • Resolves an issue that may cause Preview to unexpectedly quit.
  • Improves support for IPv6.
  • Improves VPN reliability.
  • Identifies and removes known variants of MacDefender malware.
  • Corrects timezone data in iCal for Lisbon-Portugal.
  • Adds the ability to use Kerberos authentication to a web proxy server.
  • Fixes an issue when saving documents from Xcode or TextEdit when using an NFS home directory.
  • Fixes an issue when importing certain media files into Final Cut Pro.
  • Includes RAW image compatibility for additional digital cameras.
  • Mac OS X v10.6.8 also includes fixes provided in the Mac OS X v10.6.7 Snow Leopard Font Update:
  • Addresses an issue in which some OpenType fonts don’t display correctly in certain applications.
  • Resolves issues printing from Preview.
  • Addresses an issue with PDF files not opening in third-party PDF viewing applications.
  • Resolves invalid font errors when printing to PostScript printers.

Apple releases Mac OS X snow leopard 10.6.8 update
